Carb Adjustments

Well i have i bbl carb and i wanted to hear it straight the best was to set the thing, i got the truck from my father who fulled with it forever so i know its not right,

I know he screwed with the electric choke spring tighting and loosing and i need to know how to get this back to original or set it right,

I needinfo from start to finish including idle rpm

sometimes the thing shakes, turns off in tight turns or while stoping on a hill,
ill try to get a pic tommorrow to show how the vacume lines are run because he just has a edelbrock air cleaner were is the original had a lot of differnet hoses.

The first thing I would do is check the float level, and set it to the proper specification. This should help the stalling in turns and on hills.

What year is the vehicle? First thing to do is replace all the old vacuum hoses and ensure there are no leaks. My Bronco had a hidden elbow on the bottom of the vacuum tree that drove me nuts until I found and capped it. Then set the timing to 10*.

There are only two screws on the carb, idle speed on the throttle linkage and idle mixture near the base of the carb. Set the idle speed with a tach. Use a vacuum gauge to set the idle mixture - go 1/4 turn at a time up to a full turn in both directions and see where you get the highest vacuum reading. Reset the idle if it changed much, then confirm the timing is still correct.
