Power Steering box

Got to replace my PS box {suxs}.

Just wondering, is 248,000+ miles on the box considered "due"???

it really depends on how it's been treated. big tires, lots of load, snow plow, hitting curbs, running hot, out of fluid, etc= shorter life.

normal tires, normal driving, good maintenance = longer life.

The box in my last truck was around 400,000 miles with two PS shaft seal replacements but was getting pretty darn loose.

The one in the truck i have now is at either 140,000 or 240,000 (i know it was on at least it's second 302 when i got it, now has a 300) and it's tight as can be, it just needs a new pitman arm seal.

My 84 F150 has 232,000 on it with the original box and it still steers well and I have never adjusted the box as is possible. they seem to be very durable. Check out the adjusting procedure if it is a b it loose.

She's a leaking thru the Pittman arm, losing a pint a minute. Getting a Reman'd one and swapping her out on Saturday. Just to damn lazy to rebuild it myself. Just hope I don't throw out the double-over-toe in alignment.

Seeing as how a seal kit is under $20 and takes about 30 minutes to install I'd go that route. at least then you know what your box has been through and what shape it's in.

again, remans are hit or miss so if you miss are you really ahead anything?
