On my 05' King Ranch with a 6.0L P.S.D. I have about 73,000 miles and so far the stock intake system. Running 285 65R 18 inch B.F. Goodrich All Terrain T/A's. I just put a magna flow turbo back S.S. exhaust system on with no cat. I was wondering what is best option if i go to chip or program it.
I do not want to go extreme as i am not going to be putting it on the track or any thing like that, but more the towing mode is what i am interested in. Was thinking maybe the edge chip or the bully dog programer.
I have heard that programers take you engine hour back to 0 and this is an easy way for the dealer to tell you have reprogramed and thus can put any engine warranty and extended warranty at risk. I heard the chip how ever does not do this as it plugs in down stream of the computer's. I can fet what ever system from the same guy he will sell me what ever i want, but he gave me this heads up on this difference.
Is this the facts on the differences on the 2 and does chips work as good as programers?
do a search here and i'm sure you'll find the overwhelming majority to be using the SCT as it is much safer and will not harm the tranny like the edge or bully dog. There are a couple of vendors that will be talked about in the posts and you'll most definitely want to go with custom tunes. happy searching and pull up a comfortable chair.

He gave you a line of crock.. Nothing turns back the engine hours.. Search the forum for the info.. Only possible way for Ford to ever know you programmed is to either see the program in it, see the tuner (speculation) or pull your PCM and ship it to their nerds in suits to check the CAM. Other then that no ford dealership has the hardware to physically see that you were programmed, only Ford's engineers can. So here's what I'll sum it up for.. You can check forum for the rest of the goodies..
Option 1) Get a "Chip" and 20k miles down the road a brand new 5R110 (~$3,000-$5,000)...
Option 2) Get an SCT XCal and let a programmer truly calibrate your engine to your specification.. Gain power, economy and get what you need out of it for towing..
You'll ask, why Option 1? Simple, no inline chip will ever reprogram the TCM. You push power through the crank to the Transmission (Chip) without changing the way the Transmission reacts.. That's like filling up a truck tire until it blows up on you..
