I have an '01 crew cab, 7.3. My fuel tank will hold 29 gallons of fuel. While I can fuel it quickly, up to 24 gallons, when it hits that, it has 'foamed' up and shuts off. I can get 5 more gallons into it by 'seeping' the fuel into it, as it 'foams' up constantly. This takes around 10 minutes to get the last 5 gallons in.....and no...this is not one of the 'big rig' pumps that pumps high, high volumes...it is a regular (diesel) gas pump.
My brother-in-law has the very same truck (but '02) and his does the same thing.
Is this 'common' and I just have to live with?
What say you, guys? Do any of you have this problem and find a way to 'fix' it.
Do the harpoon mod! It will fill to the top without shutting off and you will only have to baby the last half gallon in.

While you're at it, go ahead and do the Hutch mod as well, whihc will eliminate the entrained air going into your fuel pump and injectors ... equates to longer fuel pump life, longer injector life, more efficient fueling in the injectors, and quieter injectors.
ITP sells a kit to accomplish the whole task at the link below. Install is not difficult, and there are tons of folks who have done it and enjoying the benefits (me included).
