Heres a dumb question!

Why did FORD offset the engine in these trucks 1 1\2" off center to the right?

Could be to have more room for the steering gear box and brake booster. Also on the 4x4s the transfer case probably needs the extra room too.

He retired after his sunglasses came off accidently.

It was Marty Feldman.

i do believe one of the reasons for the offset engine had to to with the rear axle and keeping the needle bearings in the ujoints from burning up. i know gm accomplished this by tilting there engine down a few degrees and i forget what mopar did.

I think they offset the motors cause they made the rear ends offset. Otherwise they would have had to put a bend in the driveshaft.

Driveshafts have joints in them anyway, I don't think a couple of inches over the length of the truck would be a big deal.

Most u joints need an offset. If you don't and the rollers never turn, they just elongate and tear things up. Rotation is also how lubrication occurs.

Forgive my ignorance, but doesn't the "up and down" offset handle all this? Seems to me an additional offset left to right would have to be for another reason.

They knew it would be an FTE thread in 2007, and every year from now on.
One reason could be for u joints.
Maybe for transfer cases.
Accesories on the front of the engine.

Back to you Dennis.

Would it be the front and rear are not the same width?
