The other day when switching from 2 wheel high drive to 4 wheel high drive a loud bang sound was heard from under the cab. I haven't had the need to use the 4 wheel drive in a number of years. The truck went in 4 wheel drive ok but when the need to switch back, it took several attempts of rocking the dash switch to get it back into 2 wheel drive. Now when trying to put the vehicle back into either 4 wheel high or low range nothing happens. Found that there is no power to either the electronic dash switch or the tranfer case shift motor. I have heard that Ford has been having problems with transfer case motors but since I seem to not be getting electric power at either control there must be something else in these circuits thats holding out the necessary power.
Before I have the transfer case motor replaced I'm wonder if it could be something else.
Also I've noticed that when I first turn the key I'm hearing a clicking sound from behind the dash.It clicks about 7 times & then stops. Also the same thing happens when I finally start the engine. I've never heard this before.
I don't know where to begin to find out where the power supply comes from that feed these controls. I've checked all the small fuses that I could, both under the hood & dash & they seem to be okay.
Also, when all is said & done can one change out the transfer case shift assembly, if bad, or does it need to be done by a Ford mechanic?
