Well i have 86 ford 2wd this truck i want a rat rod style so i want to lower it about 3 in the front and i was wondering if anyone new were to get 3' drop coils, i know there are 3' inch i beams wich are pricy, and the back flip kits like 60 some dollars , i know there are 2' coils but i think it needs at least 3'.
I would go ahead and buy those. The reason I say this is you can take them back out when it won't steering right and the tires wear on the edge. You will not be able to find 3 inch lowering springs, because you can't lower it that way and the frontend still be right.
If you want low-buck, then get rid of the Ford suspension all together, and go cut the frontend off of a car and weld it in place(sub frame it), building the drop in when you weld it on.
There is another low-buck approach that was done on the early hotrods, and that is cutting the whole floorboard out and raising it up to drop the body down over the frame, modifying the inner fenders and radiator support for the front sheetmetal to drop.
that sounds like a little much if i cant find tha ill probally go with the 2" drop springs.

How much do you want to pay???? If you don't want to cut springs then what are you looking for? Look at my gallary for a 3/4 drop on a 1981. The DJM beams are great and the cheapest available through Summit Racing.
2 inch drop rear shackles do not give you 2" of drop...more like 1 inch, the front hanger is where most of the rear drop occurs. You could do a flip kit (5" rear) pretty cheap, DJM used to sell a kit for less than $500.
Now if you want to do it for less than that, you will have to get creative....shorter tires, cut springs (yes you tire mileage will suffer at 3" unless you use beams), homemade flip kit, you get the picture. But to ask how to do it then grumble on price is wasting time.
Whether lifting or lowering, don't skimp on the suspension. Either use stock stuff in stockish geometry or just replace it all.
For $550 that isn't a bad price at all. It's pretty much all there and goes right in. For the amount of headache you'll have and the amount of time wasted for trying to skimp, i'd just save until I could do it right with teh beams and all.
I never realized how CHEAP drop I-beams really were until this post. when I always heard about how "expensive" and "out of budget" they were, i was expecting at least a grand. For $350 worth of beams, and the sake of everyone else on the road, just do the beams.
yeah i get what you all are saying im just used to my mini truck, all the suspension stuff for an s10 is cheap i got a 4 inch drop on it. I think im going save up for i beams and flip kit, it will sit nice then
No! Different style spindles. Summit should be able to get you the right kit for your year from DJM. I believe for the 80-86 there are 3 different beams.
