Transmission Pouring Fluid
I changed the filter and fluid about a month ago using Merc V. I drained the torque converter.
Here goes, just to make a short story long, I don't know if all of this may be related to the situation. Actually I'm sure its not, but here goes.
I pulled my trailer (couldn't be over 5K lbs) back to my house last night as I was telling my daughter on the way that I will definately need to take the time out tomorrow to install my new radiator (that was my last post question, still haven't gotten it done!)...Anywho...
As we are travelling down the road a sweet little old lady in front of me gets a little confused about a detour and decides the best thing to do is to stop in the middle of the freeway and give it some thought. Luckily I was at least four car lengths behind her. As I slammed my brakes my front wheels rolled out smoke and her car seemed to approach at the same pace, I was immediately reminded that I still haven't wired my truck properly for trailer brakes. It was like stopping on ice.
I was pulling the truck pretty hard up hills to keep up with traffic. When I finished backing my trailer in I noticed little trails of fluid where I had been pulling forward and back and when I looked under the truck there was a constant stream coming out of the hole at the bottom of the transmission bell that I used for access to drain the converter.
It seems to have stopped leaking after it cooled down. I'm wondering if this was caused by overheating and I need to take it a little easier on her from now on when towing or if I have done some other damage as well. I lost a quart of fluid. And by the way, I have a transmission temp guage that I have been meaning to install but keep putting it off. Wish I had gotten that done too! It never pays to procrastinate.
