302 cam question

i posted my question in the engine section but i wanna see if y'all know too. i'm checking into buying a 302 i found in the nifty thrickel, tell ya about it later. it was built to go on a 5 speed manual but i've got a c6. there's not a difference between the cam to bolt up to a flexplate vs a flywheel is there?

No.

The cam is internal to the engine.

The flywheel/flexplate bolts to the CRANKshaft

I have heard that some of the 302 crankshafts are not machined for a pilot bearing. Apparently, some of the "automatic" engines didn't get the extra machining. Make sure the crank will accept a pilot bearing before you start spending any money.

ok, yeah i realized i was a moron after before i managed to get back here to check my posts...

*doh!!!*

ok so the one i'm buying was gonna be attached to a 5 spd manual and now it's gonna be attached to a c6... i don't have to worry about it being machined for a pilot bearing then right??

what is a pilot bearing?

It is the connecting/mating area between a crankshaft and M/T transmission shaft.

See where is says BEARING on Fig #2 of this page .

http://www.autozone.com/az/cds/en_us...rInfoPages.htm

http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,ca...,parttype,1964

On an A/T the input shaft slides into the T/C and then Torque convertor has a Nub on the end that fits into the end of the crankshaft

ok so here's the abbreviated version of the story.

man redoes this 302 to put in a mustang restoration project in 99. drives the car 2 days, wrecks it, pulls the motor (no damage) and stores it all sealed up in his shop till 01 when he sells it to the current owner. he kept it all sealed up, was gonna put it in his own mustang and now that his twins turned 16 he's selling the motor, the tranny, and the car all seperately. i'm buying the motor. when we went to look at it, pulled the exhaust manifolds and the ports still have overspray in them from when it was painted. pulled the plugs, look like they've never been fired except for two that barely show any use at all. flashlighted the piston heads and you can still clearly read front on them like they've never been used at all. hand turning the engine, the oil that came out the pressure sending unit hole looked brand spanking new. has all the accessories, water pump, alternator, aluminum 4 barrel intake and a holley 4 barrel 600 cfm (i think it was) to go with it to boot. just nearly a crate engine. except that it was made to go in front of a 5 spd manual and i've got a c6 so i'll have to make that adjustment apparently. so i'm paying the man 1250 for it and the receipts from the machine shop that it came out of in 99 to mr mustang club from richville in the canyon.

so what do you think?? good find??

anything else i shud be watching out for in buying one like this??
