I just bought this 88 Ford F150 and I have 2 fuel doors on drivers sde, I know one is main and one is reserve, which is which? Im thinking first on from drivers door is main, but wanna make sure, I notice a switch on the dash, can I use that driving or do I have to do anything before switching thanks.
Yea the older ones with the switch on the dash to change the gauge with the valve in the floor next to the seat to switch the lines from one to the other where marked "Main" and "Aux" but now it's just front and rear.
Use them as you will. I run off the front tank with the rear left full to smooth out the ride when not carrying any load.
Having just bought the truck, I would make sure everything is working right before you rely on them...its really a pain when you drain your first tank thinking you can just switch to the second, then can't.

Yeah Ive thought about that as well,Switching tanks parked, to #1 find out if both have gas and # 2 see if all works, good advice and thanks for not ripping on me lol, my first P/U truck lol.
I always use the front and keep a 1/4 in the rear for reserve (unless long trip or cheap gas of course) running w/2 full tanks when not nescesary is just added weight to lower mileage
Not off hand, I had to work all weekend, I will bum my folks Digicam and snap a few and hopefully figoure out how to post em lol. A little info on it tho, extended cab I6 300 (I think) or 4.9 ( I also think) 5 spd, 2wd I live in New Mexico and not an off roader so 2wd is fine. Its not as nice looking as yours but its cancer free 2 tone blue/grey. Im happy with it, and I spent 900 on it. Vehicles down here are way expensive so I think I got a good deal.
This reminds me, I need to replace my rear tank.. it's got a hole.. now where did I put the filler neck tube the shop _had_ to remove for it to pass safety.. Pfft as if. Btw, the front tank is the smaller of the two.

Something to keep in mind on your truck, the dual function resiviour (switching valve assy) holds about a pint of gas. My 89 F150 will run about 5-8 miles on what's in the system before it dies. This is how I found out the front in-tank pump went south on me last week. cruising along the freeway and noticed the rear tank almost empty, switch to front ( it's full) get down the freeway a bit more and she died. And me without a section of hose. Had to call AAA and have them bring me some gas. (they won't send a tow truck with a siphon hose and no gas)
