The only thing a pickle forks good for is pounding holes in chebbies, to use it on a pitman arm the box then goes into the iron scrap bin. What do yo think happens to that little bearing race that supports the sector shaft after pounding on it with a pickle fork?
Far as adjusting a box if done properly nothing wrong hecks it's better than letting a loose box hammer the gear faces internally. Too tight is flat plain stupid by the person overtightening the box that will wipe it out in no time with uneccessary preloading.

Uhh yep. i clearly say i take the arm off the box then the drag link off the spindle....

Whats left is on the bench in the vice using a pickle fork if seperation is needed.

And again there is no adjustment for wear....Its bearing preload and if its worn it will move the mesh closer and out of the wear pattern, The cure for wear is repair.

Wear, what wear?
I worked on an old old old Case tractor on the ranch the steering box sector gear was so worn away you could of placed a penny flush in the gear teeth.
I Tig welded the teeth back up ground and flap wheeled to looking like new again then had the teeth case hardened. Going on 15 years of light use monthly at the ranch and still a tight box. This was on a dare I bet ya kind of repair, guess ya gets lucky once and a while.
