my 300 6 has been acting up lately. when warm and it sat for a while it seems to have a hard time starting. like i turn the key, press the gas it dies. pump the gas it dies. hammer and turn the key it dies. what gives?
im thinking maybe the choke is sticking, but im not sure on how to set it. can someone help me out here?
I wonder if the fuel pump could be shot. I had an '84 300 and it would loose power when hot and die out. My mechanic told me next time it does it keep it running (if you kept pumping lightly on the accelerator it would roughly keep running) and have someone look into the carb and see if it is either flooding or dry. Mine was dry. He put a pressure testing device on the fuel line. It was in spec until the truck warmed up and then dropped way low. Apparently a small hole in the diaphram that didnt leak until warm or something like that.
Pour a small amount of gas down the carb and see if you get her to run for a few seconds. You know were to start...first check for fuel, then move to ignition. You should be able to get your truck to start even with a faulty choke. It just takes some gas pedal technique. My two thoughts are : fuel pump / blockage or DII module. Rare the module would die suddenly....both parts usually start failing with intermittent failures.
