id like to put either a 351w or prefferbly a 460 in my f150 which has a 300 6 right now, has anyone done this and what does it cost i have bith motors wich are both out of 95's just like my truck.
any info is helpfull
thanks. evan
I've done it. Actually I did it this spring. Fun project. It took me a whole weekend. Unless you have the tranny from a big block, the 460 is out. 460 requires a big block tranny. The 351 will bolt up to your existing tranny. Hopefully, since you have both '95 motors that your truck is the same year? There are a few changes that you will have to do; a new computer, new frame mounts, new radiator, all new hoses, new A/C lines(if you have A/C), new exhaust (just the y-pipe, you can reuse the CAT/muffler/tailpipe(s)), and new PS lines. I got rid of the stock fan and opted for an electric. I also bought headers for mine instead of the stock manifolds (which by the way if you need a pair I have them off of a '95 - 351w). I did post a message describing in detail what is involved in the swap. I posted it in the 1987-1996 truck forum. Do a search under engine swap, it may still be there. Good luck and do your research on these pages. There is a lot of good info here.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-Jul-02 AT 10:38 AM (EST)]Hey Swirk hows your gas mileage with the 351W? I get about 14-15 city, 18 or so highway with my six right now.
Depends on if the A/C is on or not. My truck also has a 5-speed, so that helps on the highway. Right now, I get about 18 on the highway sometimes a little better. Around town is a steady 15 mpg. A couple of gas saving things that I have are an electric fan and headers/free flowing exhaust.
You could, all you need is some technical knowledge, some spare cash, and a donor 351w. It was a fairly easy swap, even the computer/fule injection. I actually sold my I6 for $100 less than I paid for the V8. Not a bad deal.
