Well I posted this in the flatty form but i thought i would post it here as well...
So I spent all day in the shop after school rebuilding the fuel pump and the carb and got it all back on and tryed to start her up. she had a little bit or a hard time at first so i hook some jumper cables from my moms car to the starter and she started right up...... but I have a few problems i need help with.
First is that the carb leaks like crazy all over the place and i really dont think that is too good and my other problem is that it is like shooting so much gas into the carb, I had the airfilter off and you could see like a water fall of gas going into it.
any help on how to fix any of these would be appreciated.
Oh ya btw the motor is a 1949 flatty 6 with a 847? holly carb
I dont think so it was mostly coming from the area known as "everywhere" a lot of it is coming just from the screws and places like that. I will try and find out where it is coming from tommaro maybe try and post some pics and a vid.
Big WOOOO HOOOO!!!! The first time with mine was pretty exciting too. Than it was back to the drawing board. Been almost 5 months now for me, many improvements, getting ready again for round 2.
Ya it was pretty cool, even thought it sounded real bad, and i almost like died from all the smoke it put into the garage... I couldn't see from one side to the other..
ok so if it is a float problem... how do i fix it?
ok so if it is a float problem... how do i fix it?
well its one of two things.
1. the float is mis-adjusted set too high, which means the valve doesn't shut off
2. the valve doesn't shut off (sticks, debris)..
This is where and electric pump is good to have
take the top off, with the float, using the pump, with top (long hose connected) ovre coffee can, or some such, push up on hte float to see if the valve closes and stops the flow..
if no, fix this
if yes, record the distance from top of float to bottom of top of carb when flow stops. here is the fun part, you have to know how it SHOULD be adjusted..
