Ideas for good/cheap tuner-code reader?

Its an excellent data logger. Up to 4 hours of run time to analyze back on your pc. Every ECU parameter logged... %engine load, injector pulse data, maf voltage, trans lockup schedules blah blah blah. I can pull codes with a paper clip... but it does that just fine as well.
I doubt the nubs on amazon were using the tool for its entire capabilities...but if you wish to make your judgement on the device based on their reviews. Go for it!

Oh yea.. its OBD 1 fully compatible as well.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

I merely mentioned those the reviews because I was hoping to get some sort of retort about WHY this scanner truly IS useful. I guess you...sorta...did that... half assed

A little bit of eco humor. You should be able to take it.

EDIT: LOL, I just realized that 'eco humor' is now subconsciously accepted as a household term

Worth every nickel ($250) and compatible with OBD1 and 2.
1. No more back probing wires. (TPS, IAC, MAP, HEGO etc. etc. voltage can be accessed via plugging into service port)
2. Data logging solution
3. Complete diagnostics
4. Compatible with tuning setups as well.
5. Scalable and updated via BIOS setups from manufacturer. (i.e. this will continue to work for vehicles to come!)
Hope this helps,
Mike
It does all this for OBD1??? It plugs into the "service port" on OBD1??? Is that the same thing as the "Data Link Connector" that all OBD2 rigs have under the dash on the drivers side??? I have always heard of these things being done on OBD2 via the DLC, + I have done this myself on OBD2 via the DLC, but I have never heard of the info in these OBD1 computers being accessible the way you describe without installing a device (BOB, Monitor) in series with the computer and the wiring harness. I have also never heard of a "service port" that gives access to real time data in the computer. Even the tools that the Ford dealers were given hooked up to the computer in series and I would like to think that if there was a less intrusive way to get all that info they would have used it....just like they do with OBD2. There is that one plug that allows one to pull codes, run the fuel pump etc., but that does not give live info as to the sensor inputs to the computer and the actuator outputs of the computer....at least not that I am aware of.
I am not saying that the AutoXray does not do these things you say, but if there is a plug on these OBD1 rigs similar in nature to the Data Link Connector that all 96 and newer rigs have as per federal law that allows access to the info you say it does, I sure would like to know more about it.

Tuning folks love it for EFI tweaking. That and the ease diagnostics obd1 tool.
None of these tools that I've used plug into the harness. Not even the one from the Ford dealership plugged into the harness.... just the service port.

A buddy of mine is a driveability and emissions mechanic at the local Ford dealership. The scan tool he uses for EEC-IV vehicles plugs right into the service port... NOT into the ECU harness. I've used it on my truck. If you have any specific questions as to this tool, PM me and I'll give you his number.
Not only does it pull codes, but it logs/displays MAF, TPS, IAC, MLPS, MAP, etc. etc. Runs KOEO, KOER, and an electronic transmission check.
The EASE diagnostics OBD-1 scanner/logger does the same thing as the AutoXray. No piggy back needed. The data logger and PC scan tool plug into the EEC-IV service port.

Hope this clears some of this up. OBD-1 tools are tough to find.
