Trip computer 2005 Lariat

Hi everyone, I just joined this site and have spent many hours aready reading the various posts and stories. Very informative!

Anyway, I am in the process of installing a 60 gal. Titan tank in my F350 CC long box, and would like to reprogram the trip computer. As I say, I read many of the posts on this site about it, and today I went and spoke with a mechanic at the local ford dealership. He said that to the best of his knowledge, the trip computer learns over time about the distance that it can use to calculate the MPG and distance remaining. He has the identical truck and said that he has watched as his truck "learned" over the course of several fillups. Has anyone else heard this? It seems to be a logical explaination, as my remainng miles to drive changes proportionately to the amount I haul my 30' trailer, and when I drive without it after arriving at a campsite. The mechanic felt that the computer is tied to the fuel sending unit, so initially it will be a little confused with a tank of this size it will learn over time.

He did also concure that prior to the 2005 it was possible to reprogram the computer to acknowledge the larger tank, but after 2005 even they have to ship out the module to be reprogrammed. He did say though that the computer is much more advanced in the 2005's and up.

Any comments?? Again, great site!

Steve
