This morning my 2002 E350 5.7L started to do something weird. At low RPM, <2000, it will bog the engine although keep running. It almost seems like the torque converter is not freely spinning..? It shifts fine so I don't think the cooling lines are clogged. Help?
I have to meet with a warehouse there about stocking my parts
If you need to get us to look at it, the converter, we can rebuild it or have one send you a lot cheaper than the dealer can!!!!!
That sounds like the torque converter clutch is applying too early. If that's the case, there is probably nothing wrong with the torque converter. Instead, there is an internal leak in the pump or cross leak in the valve body that is applying the converter clutch.
Before you go to the expense and effort to replace the converter, have somebody put a scanner on it in data mode and monitor the torque converter application to see if it is being commanded to come on or is comming on by itself.
Got scheduled for Tuesday. One wierd thing I noticed is that I'm starting to smell a peculiar burning smell, kind of like oil burning. I think the trans might be cooking but that's me. The fluids are all okay and no lights. I just wanna sound smart to the tech so they don't try to jerk me around and tell me I need a new engine and transmission with a suggested rear end and tires.
Have the tech check it out and then report back. I can help you sort through the crap. I have seen it a million times, I owned a couple of transmission shops for years.
