Those lines mean it was "honed" (hoe-n-d) properly after machining....looks good to me.

Just out of curiosity, why did it need a rebuild at 150,000mi? What happened?

Yea, that's cross-hatching.. helps the rings seat properly. Looks like it's in good condition, lucky you.

No me either, completely worn off by then. Even at half that mileage.

Must have been well cared for, oil changed regularly with good oil used.

It could have been but not a home spun job.

Does it have a rebuilder tag on it, "Jasper" or like reman would have a tag on it down low near oil pan/bell housing area.

I know this is apples and oranges, but I rebuilt an old honda with almost 190000 miles on it still had the original cross hatch. I don't think it's out of the question to still be able to see the cross hatch at 150000 miles.

I tore down my 89 crown vic 5.0 with around 250000kms, It still had a good cross hatch! the only reason I tore it down was cause the trans literally exploded (case split just about completly in half) so I pulled the engine and junked the rusty car (should have kept the 8.8 as well).

Again, apples to oranges and all, but I've seen lots of old Volvo engines at the junkyard with good cross-hatch and 200,000+ miles on the odo...
