300 has two cats?

I always heard that the 300 has two cats. Is that really the case?

I have one cat that the two downpipes go into with a single outlet.

Next is what must be the second cat--or is it a resonator?

Then the huge muffler, which by the way is extremely restrictive. I know because I opened it up and all the tubes inside are smaller than the piping before and after, which is 2.25 OD. The muffler's first tube is about 2" which is not too bad and if you cut a hole in the back right after that tube and jam piping in to the hole up to the tube, you will have created a straight through that sounds pretty good and loud. I know because I did it.

Anyhow, I know it's illegal to tamper with the cat, but if it has two cats, does the law require two cats inline or can one be removed since you would still have the one required cat?

I would imagine the law really does depend on yr state or province. But Im sure that is cat. All the resonators i've seen kinda resemble Cherry Bomb glass packs. Also it would make sense if that was a second cat because Fords are known to do very well on emissions tests.
