:-X11 I'm trying to chang my filter on my 96 F-150 300ci pick up. I am having trouble finding the reset button to depressurive the fuel system. Can you help out? Thanks!
I just let mine sit for a couple hours. Got home from work at about 6pm and did it in the dark sans flashlight at 9:30 or so (in the winter time no less). Only got a bit of gas in the 'ol armpit, but i'm imagining that happening even when depressurized properly. Nothing sprayed out at me in any case.
if it's a 96 the "inertia" switch is on the passenger side kick panel..by the feet...just pop the button up with a screw driver and start the truck and run it until it dies(10 seconds)
Thanks for the help. Yep. I found it on the passenger side by the kickplate. So then I get under the truck and...are the fuel lines welded in? I pulled, and tugged and strained...they aint a commin' off the fuel filter. I guess a heat wrench is out of the question. How about I just put in all new fuel lines. That might be easier. Remember...this filter has 110,000 miles on it. Yeah, I know every year it was supposed to be done. I'm guesing this was why I waited. So how do I get them apart? They are the "hairpin" type clips and the manual says "Pull straight off." Yeah. Right.
I have a '93 but depending on the setup under there, I'd think a flathead screwdriver carefully used for some leverage may help pop that out of the clips. Maybe even some lubricant spray or liquid wrench just to loosen things up a bit may help.
theres a special tool for taking off fuel filters so maybe u can have ur buddy who has a garage get it off, or ur local garage...i only know this because the guy who was going to help me change mine, broke his tool on another ford truck.
If you have the little clips just bust them out with a screwdriver. The new filter should come with new ones unless you get the long style by mistake. The long is meant for trucks that use self locking lines unstead of the clips.
