Straight-6 stalls when idling
I have a 1986 F-150 300 Straight-6 automatic, and it stalls when idling. So far I have gotten past this by shifting to neutral and giving it enough gas to keep it from stalling when I have to stay in one place for a certain amount of time, but it's still really irritating. I've been told I should up the idle speed, but that doesn't seem like a solution to the problem but just a way around it. Anyone know how I can get it to idle properly without stalling? I'm trying to do some work on my truck this summer and I'd like to get past this problem. Email reply would be appreciated.
Thanks,

If that fails to help, the problem can be "fixed" (covered up) by setting the anti-diesel screw to 600-700 rpm instead of below 500 where it's supposed to be. The idle speed control motor at the back of the carb is supposed to control the correct idle speed with the engine running, then drop down on this screw after shutdown to keep the engine from dieseling. If, for some unknown reason, the ISC motor is retracting too far, you'll still have an idle instead of the "anti-diesel" speed.
Hope this helps (or even makes sense
