My 88 F150 is having some problems with idle. It will surge in a 500 rpm range and then if not accelerated, finally stall. This occurs when starting. I conducted a computer test and came up with the following codes: KOEO 32, 67; KOER 12, 32. The 32 is listed as a evp voltage below closed limit/egr pressure feedback fault, not closing properly. The 12 is an idle speed control out of range. The 67 is an ac clutch switch fault, probably not affecting my idle. Any ideas on correcting the problem would be appreciated. I am going to replace my O2 sensor and clean my idle speed control bypass valve. Will this help? Appreciate the advice. dakota
i have the same problem with my truck, when i start it when its cold it will surge up and then stall. but sometimes it will catch itself and rev back up. i notice it does that mainly when its cooler out.
The low voltage code gets kicked out when its running poorly and about to die, so some of the codes are generated when the motor is running badly.
EGRs are kinda expensive, maybe $50-70, but that's where I'd start. I'd just replace it or block it off with a plate. You can test your EGR sensor before replacing it. Autozone has a free little book that describes testing it with an ohmeter. Naturally. make sure your ignition is in top condition, wires, plugs, distrib cap, stator, so that doens't contribute to it s rough running. The clear the codes, run it again to see what comes up. I go by the codes and sometimes replace things that truely don't need it. But in the long run, it saves alot time.
Before I would mess with the EGR, i'd take off and clean out the IAC. Its real simple and I did it with a leatherman. Take off the IAC and clean out the valve with some sort of solvent, then spray out the solenoid itself with an electronics-safe solvent. Reassemble and reset the computer. Cheap/Free and it should help even if its not the main cause of your problems. (in my case, that was my problem and i'm idling fine now)
