Engine Temp issue

I have a 2005 6.0 with 27,000 on her. I know the stock temp gauge is garbage so that will be replaced soon. I have noticed fluid all over the resivore, eng compartment and running down the diver side front spring. This has happened several times now. It did it this weekend driving to and from Vegas. Not towing anything and I never heard the fan kick in. It wasn't even that hot outside. She never even dropped a gear. Is this normal? Is there any way to help her to run cooler? I do tow occasionally and it is even worse when I do. The fluid is the same as when I bought her in 05. It doesn't look dirty and she otherwise runs fine.

No it is not normal, your coolant system is puking. This is caused by a leaking EGR cooler or blown head gaskets. Take to your favorite local FMC 6.0 tech and have them diagnose and repair the problem.

...Or (as I have just experienced) a bad oil cooler. Take it to the dealer and get it fixed ASAP.

Do you live in Southern California? What dealer are you planning to have it serviced at?

I live at Edwards so probably the Mojave dealer or the Lancaster dealer if I have no luck at the first. UGA33, are you saying there are resivores out there that are not properly marked? It doesn't appear that the coolant is low. I did fill it though to the full mark on the bottle.

Roper53:

Just a couple of things:

1) If you filled it to the full mark on the bottle, it was definitely overfull. Only ever fill to the min line.

2) Many of these truck had improperly marked coolant levels on the bottles from the factory; there is a TSB on this, Ford will put a sticker on your bottle for you, but for reference, the min line is about 1/4" from the bottom of the bottle right under the cap.

I hope this helps, also keep an eye on you coolant for any signs of oil or exhaust gas fouling. You'll be able to see residue in the bottle from both of them.

Good luck

Up to a certain year model, if you filled it up to the max level then it would puke b/c the resevior bottles werent properly marked from the factory. Mine is an 06 and the coolant sits right at the min line.
