Glow Plug Harness Insulators

The ceramic insulators on the glow plug harness were almost gone when I bought the my truck. Just touching them caused the rest to come apart, so I cleaned them all off. I can't imagine this being a problem electrically, but does anyone know of a reason that the lack of insulators at the plugs would cause a problem? I checked the resistance of all the leads and they all seemed fine.

When mine did that I used shrink tube to replace them..... I used a double layer and left it slightly longer over the tip end so as to protect from possible shorting if power is supplied when the connector is disconnected.

Every time you shorten the wire/connector it changes the resistance....and operation of the GP circuit.

The shrink tubing works wonders. Some of the insulation was frayed near the connector, but it's all covered now. Used heavy duty shrink tube for the first layer to give it some stiffness, then a layer of high temperature (~240F) tubing back two inches.

Thanks for the ideas.
