Tilt column differences?

So I got this tilt column for a good price. (sub $100). I just removed my column because it'd be easier to install my new box, as well as to make way for the new column.

I had thought I just needed to swap the splined end over.

My truck is a 2wd.

This is my end.

It appears to be a press fit splined fitting.

Column I got has this

Appears to be a splined collar that has a locking bolt?

Questions.
#1. What gives?
#2. Do I care?
#3. Are these ends easily swappable without killing both columns?

If not I'll just wing this column back on eBay and get the proper (2wd I guess?) column.

I would look into finding a splined rag joint end so you don't have to touch the tilt column to do anything with it. http://www.flaming-river.com/ might be a good place to start.

What you have is correct.

You obviously haven't read any of my tilt column posts

You just need one of these.

Find one off a E-Series van.

Make sure you get the 11mm or 7/16" 12 point bolt for it.

Note:

When I sell something like this I give the person everything they need right from the start.

IMO, E-Pray is a danger zone

Eh, I do lots on ebay (1098+ feedback as of this writing). I've had 3 negative feedbacks left on me, and all were beyond my control/buyers own fault.

When I was in college, back when scrap metal was worth nothing, I could get a car for free, strip it, and come out +$1000 for a few weekends of work. I've scored many deals on there buying parts as well. (I landed all NOS exterior trim for my Cougar for under $350.. grills/bezels/etc), Even if the splined adapter costs me $25 I still came out ahead. But that's besides the point.

I emailed Mikes Truck Salvage to see what he has. It's dark when I get out of work now, and I just assume have one here for the weekend instead of trying to pull one this weekend.

Go me for doing this entire project outside.

No personal offense was taken, no worries.

As a backup plan.. is there a procedure to remove this from a column without dropping the column, or box?

The easiest is to drop/move the column.

Everything on the column but the steering rod/tube is interchangeable on a 78-79 E-series.

Great for parts.
