hey guys, how it be going in your part of the world whereever that might be?Got a question for you professional guys. I have 1978 inline 300 six and I am trying to figure out how to hotrod it. Switching engines would probably be more practical, but it only has 73,000 miles on it and that would be such a waste. So please give me ideas. I am stuck. Thanks.

I am not the hot rod guy, but from reading posts on this site for over two years the thing that stands out for the 300 I6 is breathing. I would get the dual exhaust manifolds from an EFI I6 (approx. '88-'96) and go to a performance intake manifold (I think J.C. Whitney). A lot of folks have put 4 barrels on the I6, but I suspect a good two barrel would wake it up. Depends on how much you want to hot rod it and how high you want to (or can) rev it. After intake and exhaust (also open up the rest of the exhaust system, probably joining into one pipe unless a pretty radical hop up job) there is always head work (opening up the ports, milling for higher compression) and a performance cam shaft. Performance ignition systems are probably a must on a hop up of an older truck. Hang around a bit and get the advice of some of the FTE'rs who have hopped up 300s. They should be posting here in due time. Or search throught the archives as this topic has been addressed quite a few times.
