Checking Fusible Links

Checking Fusible Links
So I switched the battery terminals on my truck.. it smoked...took the wires off the starter solenoid and wanted to check my fusible link...how do i do that?

If you have an Ohmmeter measure the resistance, it should be nearly zero Ohms.

I just feel the wire and bend it if it stays bent than its still good you can tell or use a ohmmeter

Yeah because if the link is burned there is no wire in it so it is just rubber. ITS JUST MY WAY OF CHECKING THEM NO NEED TO MAKE FUN OF ME LOL

Okay...still haven't fixed it yet..need help again...so give me a breakdown step by step about it

Just unwrap the tape on the harness from the relay ..leading toward the fuse box.
It will be highly evident that if it has melted.

Thanks. I'll try it out..Just the beast has to move or she's getting towed...do you think it fried the battery too?

A wiring diagram should indicate the gauge of the link. You can find replacement links at any good auto parts store. They may not look the same but they will work the same.

Not that someone here may not know but asking in the 1967-72 F-100 and larger F-Series forum instead of the 1980-86 forum might get you better results.
