lifting a S/B 94.....

I'm fixin to lift my 94 F-150, but was curious if there's any driveshaft problems or anything when going up 6" on a short wheel base.....

And also, are most lifts the same excpet for coils on 4 and 6 inches?

Thanks!!

It would be in your best interest to have a custom CV driveshaft built for your truck. The pinion angles will be out of wack and the one piece drive shafts cannot compensate nor adjust to extreme angles with only one axial U-joint. A set of differential shims will help as well.

Cost me $300 for my new shaft using a spicer 3/4 ton CV knuckle with two more HD u-joints than the stock shaft. My new driveshaft was also an inch and a half longer than the stock unit.

If the driveshaft is too short, you will increase the wear on the output shaft bushing on the transfer case. Your driveshaft will be barely adequate with 6" lift. It will slip out 2-3" further on the slip yoke.

Speak to a driveline shop... they may have used parts for your applications. If you plan on modifying your truck, expect to have to mess with these driveline issues.

Or have fun chasing the vibration ghosts after the lift!

Good Luck,
Mike

My driveshaft pulled out about 3/4". Will trig it out exactly at work Monday. Have had 4 F-150 with 6 inch lifts with stock driveshafts front and rear with no problems. 2 S/B 1 L/B 1 S/B Ext Cab. Ive had the best luck with skyjacker kits.

Look in your phonebook for a driveline service place. They can weld you up a custom to your truck shaft that will be well worth it!

If not.. this place does some killer work!

http://www.drivelinesnw.com/

Give them a call for measurements. They will treat you right.

Some degree shims for your differential will help alot in conjunction with the cv shaft. Point that pinion right at the tcase with a good spicer CV joint in there and your vibrations will be a long lost memory. Driveshaft binding and poor pinion angle are probably both contributing to your vibration.

also... if you've been driving with these vibrations for some time... you might want to pick up a rear seal and bushing for the bw1356. The vibrations will wear that bushing out and cause further rubbing down the road. Well worth the $25. With the shaft out... its a ten minute job. I believe you can get the set at broncograveyard.com.

I'm getting ready to cut the spring perches off the rear to spin it. My driveshaft angle is steep to say the least.

96, that rear shaft has some serious angle. No wonder it vibrates. Nice looking truck. What is the angle, like 40 degrees? I here you can rotate your t-case, but dont know how that works. Good luck.

thanx, but clocking the t case only helps the front drive shaft i think and oddly it isnt nearly as bad.

Well I don't mind the vibrations......I think it adds "character"

Would dropping the t-case/tranny cross member an inch or so be enough?

I don't plan on any rockcrawling or anything, I just wanna keep the frame out of snowbanks

Thanks!!

Shimming the rear diff would be a more logical route. A two piece driveshaft can be had for pretty cheap if you're handy at the local pick and pull.

A driveline shop can freshen it up for much cheaper than a custom route.

The vibrations will cause u-joints and the output bushing in the tcase to fail prematurely. You sould deal with them appropriately.

How much quicker?? Nobody can say.

Mike, just curious here but... How would a two piece driveshaft make lifting the truck better? So you can divide the pinion angle into two and put a bit of an angle at the center u-joint? Because I was under the impression that even a two piece driveshaft should be as straight as possible... I've got a two piece and it made an AWFUL vibration from a stop after being lifted until I shimmed it down...

Shimming down the center support bearing to straighten out the driveshaft as much as possible:
