Thanks to Bobbytnm, and his Caddy valve covers I decided to change the appearance of the 1986 307 olds in my 55 f-100. This is what I came up with. The holes are for dummy acorn nuts and a PCV valve that will be hidden by the battery. more pic's in my gallery

Those look fantastic!!!! I can't wait to see them installed. Heck, I can't wait to see the ones I fabbed installed as well. I got busy and haven't managed to paint the details on my covers yet.
How did you do the lettering? is it paint or decals?
What an awesome job!!! I big thumbs up and a round of frosties to you!
Bobby
Thanks guys, The lettering could be purchased from any sign shop but I purchased it from Technostaliga when I purchased a repop Caddy bat-wing aircleaner. The pinstripe is 1/16" from 3M. The Olds 307 has a oil filler tube in the block, just in front of the intake, which also adds to the old school look. pictures to be added when installed.
I can help I think...... This is a Forum where people actually respect and encourage each other. In other words, this is a friendly group of knuckleheads and knuckleladies who also happen to know an awful lot about old Ford Trucks. The "Bonus" (couldn't resist using that term) is that they know a whole lot about a bunch of other stuff as well like fabrication, materials, paint, welding, and part numbers.
Welcome to the madness. Sit back and enjoy the ride....... Glad you are on-board..
....did I mention that procrastination is one of the things I do best? Heck, its one of the things I can actually get right the first time, everytime.
I did actually take 1 small baby step in that direction this weekend. I replaced my master cylinder. How does that relate you ask? Well, the one I had had a small weep out of the rear of it and it would occasionally drip on the valve cover thereby stripping the paint. So, I couldn't rightly put new fancy valve covers on the truck only to have the MC drip all over them could I? (Hows that for an excuse??)
Those rocket covers sure look nice don't they?
Bobby
Besides Ford, this dummy also speaks Olds and Packard.
Batwing Aircleaners: Cadillac/Oldsmobile: 1953/56; Buick: 1953/56; Pontiac: 1955/56; Packard/Nash Hudson: 1955/56. The Nash/Hudsons used Packard V8's. Hudson collectors call the 1955/56 Hudson's "Hashes" because they're nothing more than a Nash body with a Hudson nameplate. Another nickname is: PackRamSon: Packard engine, Rambler body, Hudson nameplate.
The valve covers above almost mimic the 1949/52 Olds valve covers. The Olds covers had vertical flutes, were the same color, and had two studs that protruded thru the covers. These held plates that not only said Oldsmobile Rocket, but had small bumps in them to retain the sparkplug wires, which fed between the plates and the covers. Chrome acorn nuts were used on the studs.
