Question 4wd not working

i have an 03 f150 with about 60xxx. when i shift into 4hi or 4low the light comes on normal but it never actually goes in to 4wd. when i turn it back 2wd the light goes out like normal. sometimes it might shift if driving about 25mph on dry pavement. but now nothing happens. any help would be great. what could my problem be?

might be a bad switch or a fuse?

Check the vacuum lines at the front differential solenoids that are near the battery. If the light comes one, the transfer case has shifted, but it sounds like the front differential isn't engaging.

I would say there is something wrong with the vaccuum diaphram on the front axle. I had the same problem with my 03 s-crew, exept for me it would only happen when I would go through deep snow, the vacuum solonoid on the front axle actually sucked in snow, melted and froze it up, I had to take it off, dry it out, then reinstall it and has worked fine since. I think the diaphram is probably has a hole in it and is leaking causing the front diff to not engage.
