Our fire department owns many F350 trucks and the transmission failure rate is extreme. A mechanic from Orange County Fire told me about a filter that we could put in line to filter the trans fluid on it's way to the radiator. This will trap the wear shavings and take them out of circulation. Has any one had experience with this type of filter that could help us find some? Are there installation issues we should know about?
Thanks, Rick

Ford inline trans filter kit part number - 4R100 and E40D
2W4Z-7B155-ZA. From the SD tech folder.
I am guessing you have the 4R100 transmission (7.3L or all gas motors prior to 05MY). The 4R100 is the weak link in the system, but many people make upgrade kits for the 4R100, Suncoast is just one. Upgraded clutches etc make a big difference with the 4R100. Also the transmission cooler that came on the 6.0 PSD is a direct bolt on replacement for the small factory unit you have and is a great upgrade.

I have seen a few online adds about BD diesel perfomance. They make a trans filter kit for the PSD. I'm pretty sure that it will work for either the 7.3, or the 6.0. I havn't seen any specifics. Hope this helps.
My 99 F350 V10 has a factory filter installed in the cooler line. Almost looks like a fuel filter. It's located below infront of the front axle towards the passenger line. The factory actually put a warning sticker about the filter under hood. It states that the filter has to be changed every time the transmission is serviced or it may result in transmission failure.
The link you posted is to the transmission cooler, not an intercooler. The transmission cooler in this link is the OEM 6.0 & Torqueshift transcooler. DirectFordParts sells this same cooler for $277.35. Retail is only $392.40 so what's up on the pricing? http://www.directfordparts.com/partl...=1&catalogid=2

I installed a Permacool filter and temp guage on my 94 F250. Bigges tproblem was finding space for the large filter adapter. It uses automotive style spin on filters.
I finally installed my kit under the washer/coolant overflow bottle. I mounted it on the plastic fender liner since there was no other flat space big enough for this particular kit.
Works fine. make sure your fittings are tight. ATF finds every leak, and it will eat body bushings.
