My BTS Experience

Well, I went there last Fri. Nice of them to make an appointment for me. They said they were fully booked and I told them that I needed them to intall my big oil system. After a bit of back and forth between the shop and staff, they squeaked me in on Fri. Reached there early. Got out by 1830. Had them squeeze in a trans flush too. they dropped the pan, overfilled by 4 quarts, started the truck, pumped 4 quarts out and refilled another 4 quarts and pumped it out before topping it off.

I think I have a better understanding of what is going on there. Brian and Patti were out most of the morning and spent the afternoon dealing with customers. Cale had a constant 5 or 6 stickys to deal with. He would deal with them one at a time while working on my truck but the list seemed to never end. Soon as he took care of a couple of stickys, there would be another one or two appearing. One of the guys was dedicated to building transmissions at about one a day. Saw one being built too. Another guy would work on other general issues. When Brian came back, he again had a bunch of customers to deal with. The stream was constant till after hours. I think I understand why he has such a hard time returning calls. Probably because customers come in for 1 thing and add a couple more to his "to do" list .

All in all, it was a fun experience. Got to ride around in his H2E modified truck and he did snort it a couple times. Too bad he broke the "ears" off the yoke the driveshaft bolts up to on rear differential of the 700HP truck or I'd leave him my excursion and take that. I'd consider it a fair swap.

The crew were nice people and the secretary Tina was a hottie.

Only problem was that after the big oil addition, the truck took a bit to fire up. Cale told me that it was normal even when there was something like a misfire and funny sounds coming during idle. I was also told that by the time I got to Branson, MO where I would pick up the wife, I should leave it idle for a bit while I got dinner and it would be fine. I was like . This had the same feel of previous mechanics telling me things would be ok AFTER I had gone. Sure enough, things got better. In fact, I drove it home over 600 miles and shut down at 0630. At 0930m I got up and fired it up. Even better than before the big oil. He does know the system well, I must say.

This is the 2nd time I have been skeptical of the answers I got and got egg on my face. First time I called up and told Brian that I was having trouble with his trans since I got the new PCM and it was flashed to stock tune. I asked if his trans would work with stock PCM tune. He said it would and that my problem was in the shifter column wire that broke. I tested the wire fine and tried to find the problem elsewhere. Turns out that when I changed that wire like I was told, the problem went away. Found out later that the wire was intermittently grounding which caused the trans to shift out of OD and not the PCM which was coincidently changed at the time it appeared.

But of course, I liked it.

We need to get cloning of Brian and Cale. That way, we might get more calls answered. They are on their feet all the time with one thing or another.

BTW, I forgot to mention that while watching Cale installing the big oil system, I learnt that you cut the IPR wire off and splice it into his harness so that it connects the 2 IPRs together. Also, the oil pressure sensor at the top of the oil reservoir has to go. It is replaced by a sensor from a 97 truck. Anyways, they cut and soldered both the lines instead of the usual butt connectors. Also, they had to cut the "to" and "from" fuel lines and they cut the hoses to length required instead of making a SWAG as to how long it should be. Also, Cale showed me the plug that was from the original harness and the rubber parts were like chewing gum. He replaced it with the plugs from fuel injectors and they were nice and hard.

Sounds like you had a nice trip...glad you got to expierence BTS first hand. The guy in the trans room was probably Jeremy (great name BTW ), and I'm guessing Jusitn was the other guy busy working on other stuff. The whole staff down there is exceptionally nice. I've got to hang out with them a few times outside of the shop and alway have a good time. Tina...don't remember a hotty at the desk named Tina though. Oh well, I think I'll have to make a trip back down there after I get the H2E installed anway, which I'm looking forward to (both the trip and the turbo).

Meeting or Meating?

Faster response when hitting the throttle and faster starting cold. Powerband seems to be different. Middle is better than before. Not sure if I can see much of a difference in upper other than it won't trip the 1211 code anymore or at least not yet.

No, I had my priorities. Cale was installing my pump and a trans was being built. I had to settle for a mental image. Slim girl with "C" cups.

AFAIK, driving a powerstroke is kinda like a uniform there. She has one although it is pretty stock besides an exhaust or so.
