roof rack?????
I have a 2005 f350---it is the full full size...long bed and full 4 doors....i am trying to determine what roof rack i can use to haul either ladders or canoes. Does anyone have expereince with the "goalpost type" that lock into the receiver hitch? Is it true the super duty's rood is too wide to accept weight to be hauled on the roof?
thanks

For canoes, I believe that either Yakima or Thule makes racks that use a standard tower with clips that are customized to a model. I used a Yak rack with Q Clips on my Ranger and it worked ok, with a crew cab you should be able to get a canoe up there without to much trouble, use the front hooks and you're set. Ladder wise, maybe a headache rack to lean them up against? The headache rack is on the bed, so the roof isn't an issue, and the tower racks are fine cause the canoes can't be exceptionally heavy.

As I am reading this post, there is an ad in the left hand side for US Rack. By the looks of it, it might be something you are looking for (www.usrack.com).

Yakima offers rails that can be added to the roof permanently. You then add the towers and bars or canoe carriers. They have templates they can send you to show you where to install these rails for 2002 and earlier model year trucks. The roof structure was changed in the 2003 Superduty when the moonroof option was added. I have tried to obtain a template for adding these racks for a 2003 but Yakima has told me there is not enough demand to warrant installing a rack on the 2003 and making a template. With this template in hand you don't have to drop the headliner to install the rack.
