'56 F100, TCI MII, dropped spindles, 700 miles: What adverse handling characteristics should I be aware of when my lower A-Arms are still not quite parellel with the ground? And the fix is cutting some off of the Springs?
My front A Arms are still about a 1/2 to5/8" higher in the center and my truck shows no adverse effects.
How far out are yours? Did you use the "Big Block" springs or the "small Block" springs?
T.C.I. supplys 350# or 425# depending on your engine.
They are higher about the same as yours. Used the Small Block springs as I have a Darkie Small Block. I've read several articles and threads that they should be level but haven't read how not being level affects handling....was just curious.
What are the dimension differences between the small block and big block springs? Is it only a hieght difference or diameter too? I 'am not sure which mine came with, but i want to run a 390 so I hope I have the big block springs. I just about have the Tci kit installed, have tofinish weld, disassemble, paint and assemble for the final time. Thanks for the post as I was unaware of there being different springs. Bought my kit from Tims Hot Rods and I remember him asking me what engine I was planning on running, I hope that was so he could send the right springs.
I,m pretty sure the height is the same on both spring rates, but if your springs are too light duty you will notice when everything is back on your truck that the A-Arm is lower in the center and they will really feel soft when driving. I was bottoming out on every little dip in the road. The spring height will change about 1 1/2" to 2" after about 500 mi. maybe more.
