I 'm a building inspector and land use planner. I inherited a 1990 short wheel base two-wheel drive when my father died. I replaced motor and transmission two years ago and just turned over 291,000 miles. I'm also a lieutenant colonel in the air force reserve (retiring next month) and drive the Aerostar about 1100 miles every four to six weeks to Hill AFB where I work in the A-10 Systems Program Office (SPO) - (A-10 depot maintenance).

I also am the proud owner of a 1991 Taurus SHO with all of the "plus" options except the rear spoiler and 115,000 fast miles on it. I don't drive it much because it's too easy to get into trouble with

Most of the Aerostars around here go to the crusher because of engine or transmission failure. Rust is not a real problem here, so a lot of Aerostars that are crushed are in pretty good shape interior and body-wise. It's hard for most people to justify a $3,500 motor and $2,200 transmission going into an $800 vehicle, but for all the reasons stated here, that's what I did.

shorty,
the Aero is the A-10 Warthog of vans, always shows up for the fight, gets the job done and gets you home in one piece.

I program CNC machines at our families' tool + die shop. My 3dr aero was the property
of ohio police dept., it had a FLIR system on the roof, and it is a cargo/conversion van, all carpeted with masonite underneath..
extended at that, i wonder how rare an extended cargo van is? I just had the rear windows tinted, as they were completely 'clear', wow, it's hard to back up in dark locations now (sense the regret?!)

I am a sports official. I referee basketball and umpire baseball. I also am a degreed Accountant. Officiating pays more!! :-) I got my Aero from one of my booking agents for baseball. It was sitting in the only shaded parking space at the park. I will never forget what I asked him........."Whose piece of crap van is that?" His reply was, "You wanna buy it?" The rest is history. After hearing so many horror stories i am pleasantly surprised at how good these vechicles are. Kudos to all the help I have received here.

I just recently started my dream job, a parts (& service) advisor for a Ford Lincoln, Mercury Dealership. And I will need the discounts with the work needed on my truck.

You're right about that. Sure could have used a few A-10's in <st1:country-region><st1lace>Viet Nam</st1lace></st1:country-region> (although I have a soft spot in my heart for F-4's). The Air Force is buying new wings and planning to fly the A-10 until 2027 or 2028.
