How tuff is it to rebuild a TK 5-speed from a 4 cyl Ranger?

These things are expensive as all get out, even used. If there is any way possible I want to have a second tranny standing by so I don't go through another long hardship period with no transportation.

-Even if I have to become my own dang expert!

I also wonder how pricey it is...

These things are going for as high as $500 used from a boneyard. That's amazing to me, for a manual box.
