GAS Line Sludge
I put a new gas supply pump in my 88 F150 this past weekend and after running the truck for 30 minutes or so on the rear tank, it started cutting out, exactly like it was running out of gas. Switched tanks and it was fine. I opened the fuel cap and it released alot of pressure. I then took of the vent hose at the tank and at the charcoal box and blew compressed air in to ensure that it wasn't obstructed. About a pint of gas sludge was forced out. It looked and felt like ATF but smelled like gas. For 1/4" tubing, with that much fluid, it effectivly blocked the gas tank vent hose completely. If you have an old truck with a rear tank malfucntion and you can hear the high pressure pump whinning under a extra load when running, you may want to try this easy fix. I've never seen sludge like that.
