Hey yall my buddie's got a late 04 350 6.0 i stopped by for a beer and he had to move his truck real quick. While drinking my ice cold refreshing can of goodness he shut the beast down and i heard the injectors pulse for like an extra 15 seconds. He said he brought the truck in for EGR issue and they also updated the pcm for the injector run time. Supposedly it extends the life of the injectors tremendously. I want nothin but the best for my super duty like all you guys and just curious the seriousness of this. I've checked TSB's, recall's, and haven't received and letters from my dealer indicating to bring her in. Just wonderin if any you guys know about this and any advice on addressing this issue. Thanks again boys
I had that flash on mine, but I took in back in for an EGR cooler replacement and they updated the PCM again. The newest flash doesn't buzz. If you search there is threads about what each flash does.
Thanks guys i'm gonna search the threads now so basically it doesn't need to be done?
It needs to be done only if you are experiencing cold-start issues, or rough-running until the engine is warm. The flash your buddy has is the "buzz" flash that International implemented to purge the injectors of engine oil upon shutdown. Several months after that flash came out, Ford came out with the "inductive heating" flash. With the inductive heating flash, the injectors are not purged of oil upon shutdown, but they use a technology to warm the oil in the injectors. The cold-start injector issues are known as "stiction". The 6.0L techs that are on this board say the inductive heating flash has been very good at resolving stiction.
If you are having the issues and take the truck in under warranty, the tech will update your PCM with the inductive heating flash. The buzz flash is no longer being used by Ford.

i have severe cold start issues, and my truck doesnt run worth a crap until it is fully warmed up. i have to plug it in at night even when the overnight temps only drop to the 50's.. and it has to run for several minutes till it will act right. even when it warmed up it has a tendency to have a rough idle and shake a bit at idle.
is this "flash" something that can be done with the SCT, or will the SCT override it or something ??

As npccpartsman said, I believe it can only be done by the dealer. If you are still under the 100,000 mile warranty, it will cost you the $100 deductible. If not, I believe they charge you for 1 hour of labor. BowTieHtr has said this flash has solved lots of stiction issues and he highly recommends it.
