diff oil

I have actually never checked any of my diff oil would it be wise to drain the oil and refill or just check and add if needed?

Any guesses on how long its been since the last change? If you have no clue, and the truck is at 170,000, it might just be a good preventative measure to change it. Costs very little to do and the procedure couldn't be more straight forward...

would you recommend 80w-90 or 85w-140

I'd use 80w90 for an 8.8" rear. The 85-140 is a heavier gear oil, but it's not necessary.
