I just scored used factory ford nerf bars for $75!! The only blemishes are on the mounting brackets where the old bolts left their mark. I'm really excited, but have a couple questions.
They did not come with the mounting hardware, but from the looks, I only need 12 nuts, bolts and washers for each side. Am I correct or is there special hardware that's missing? Does anyone know the OEM fastener size? I'll probably use 3/8" bolts, but still curious.
The seller called them 'chrome' but they look and feel like polished aluminum. Can anyone verify this? They feel too light to be steel.
In an earlier thread, someone mentioned OEM bars are like $500 new. I know everything is built cheaply these days, but what I got didn't feel like $500; maybe $200, but not $500! Still awfully excited to put 'em on.
Mine are not circular. Very oval, actually.. flattened @ step areas with plastic covers- just what I wanted. They have three mounting brackets so I'm sure they'll be plenty strong. I probably would look for something more substanstial if I were a rock crawler, tho. If I had unlimite $$$ I may have looked harder, but the price was right for me!
