Have had this problem for some time now and have not heard of anyone else with it.
About once every month or so the truck will start and then die down.
I then remove the allen head plug from the oil resivior and refill it with 12-16 oz of oil. It will start fine after that.
I have had many shops give me advice, and then say it may even require removing engine to get to it because of front cover.
Thanks,
mw
First off welcome to the site. Second try asking this question down in the 99-03 diesel section. You'll get more answers than your ready for.
Have you removed the allen head screw from your HPOP before trying to start? There is a drain back valve that may be leaking, or you could have an LPOP issue not refilling the HPOP while cranking.
The oil level in the HPOP has to be within 1" from the allen screw for the truck to start.
what if it's higher than an inch? i just replaced my hpop and cant get the truck to start?
Try starting a new thread with your question. Be sure to include more info like why you replaced it, any other symptoms, what year truck, any mods, etc. You'll also be better off posting it down in the engine specific forum.
If the oil level in the HPOP is too low it cannot build enough pressure to fire the injectors. I don't believe the oil level can be too high.
