2nd that on the rubber --- it's really pretty cheap, considering. If it's original, it probably won't seal again, since the "give" is gone.
And they really aren't hard at all to install. But, if it were me, looking for someone, I would look for an "old guy" who probably has experience with that type, instead of the new "glue on"s.
Not sure of your truck's condition, but the REAL surprise may come when you peel the rubber off. The flange is a great place for trapped water to work its magic. I could not get anyone to put my windshield in because they were afraid of what they'd find, plus they were hinky about working on a "classic car". So I did it myself (with help from my sons). It's pretty easy on a BonusBuilt with flat glass.
Did mine by myself, and if I can you certainly can. Joe
I did too, replaced ALL the glass in my 5-window '51 Shimmy...the curved were NOT fun, nor were the vents and doors, but with patience and perseverance, I got 'em done. It's really not that difficult, and I'm sure googling will give you a LOT of sites, with techniques, etc.
I never thought about the nasties under the rubber - I've been lucky, I guess. Neither of my '51's have had any cancer under the rubber. Knock on wood.
I'll be doing my F2 sometime in the future, the glass front and rear has LONG been gone, and the sides will get new glass too. Just another adventure!!
I have considered doing it myself but I have to balance that with - having it done for free.
I think I will read up on it to the point where I am confident that I could do it myself, ask the right questions until I find someone competent and then supervise the intallation.
