engine removal

engine removal

i have a 76 f250 "highboy" , im trying to remove the engine to install a new one, is it possible to lift it out or do you have to take the front end off. it looks like ill have to remove the front clip but im hopeing that i dont have to. any ideas? thanks

Take your front tires off and put your front axle on blocks, as close to the ground as you can get it.. That will lower your truck at least 8" A cherry picker "should" be able to lift that high.

I've done the engine thing several times not removing the front clip. It can be done and has been done many times. The last time I did it, I removed the front clip to build motor mounts and trim the front cross member. It made working on the engine so much easier I would never even think of doing it again with out removing the front. You can even get to most of the trany/bell housing bolts standing. Just keep track of the spacers (looks like a big washer) under the front bolts at the radiator support. Mine had 3 under one side and 5 under the other. I went back in with three under each side and the front end was off by about 3/8ths of an inch. Its hard to believe that a thin piece of metal can make that much difference.
