what is the diode for on the voltage regulator wiring harness the reason is i have replaced every thing in my charging sytem other then that and i am still not charging properly so any help would be apprciated thanks again
battery always dying and i keep putting new batteries new alternator nevoltage reg and i have replaced all the wires from alt to there proper connections
Install a volt meter in series with the ground battery lead. If you have a drain you will have a voltage reading. If you have a radio thar has a constant power lead, you will need to pull the fuse on it. Then start unplugging devices one at a time till you find the source for the drain. I would start with the fuse block 4 fuses, then alt (bat), regulator ... When your voltmeter drops to 0 volts you have found the source of your power drain. This is the way to locate electrical drains.
You can test the diode with a ohm meter. One way should give you a low resistance (contunity) the other way should be very high resistance (inifinity on some). The diode will need to be out of the circuit to test, one end loose.
May be some one with a wiring diag will post one showing the diode.
First check for a draw by disconnecting the + side cable of the battery and running a test light between the batt. post and the disconnected cable end. It should not light, indicating no draw
If no draw, try this...
