"Well guy's", since I don't have the 04 anymore, I need to start thinking about my next ranger project. I would like to restore an 88 reg-cab long bed 4x4 with manual tranny, t-case and hubs. Engine wouldn't matter as there would be a 5.0 in it's future. It wouldn't exactly have to be an 88, but a 1st generation but perferably an 88. My 2nd choice would be to do a 2wd ranger pre-runner, say 93 -2000, it would get a 5.0 as well. As you know I'm an off/road nut and I'm into wheeling so I lean toward 4x4's, but a pre-runner would be different and stll be off/road capable. I would like some opinions, which one would you guy's pick and why? Thanks for your input as I'm tore about which one would be the funnest and most rewarding to do. We have emissions testing, so as far as the V-8 swap, the older the truck the better, but for the pre-runner I would like the newer body style of the 93 and up.
i had a 96 supercab stylesyde with the splash suspension on it, 4.0L , 2wd and that truck fit the road like a glove.....I always wanted to put a supercharger on it with some headers n such, i never got around to that project but to this day I wonder how it would have drove and wonder what the hp numbers would have been.. I was thinking a s/c would put the old 4.oL at about 225hp??
Since you seem to like 4x4, I would get a gen 1 also. Can't beat those looks in an older truck like that... Fewer good condition ones around...easier to make yours unique
Isn't that a fact, I checked out ebay and the auto trader on a cross country search. Not too many nice ones showing and there high dollar at that. I found a beautiful 86 two tone white and blue 4x4, manual trans, t-case, the whole nine yards down in S. Carolina on the AT, but price was unlisted, you have to call. From the pitures, I'ld bet at least 6 grand. Thats the great thing about a project, don't have to be in a hurry, I'll just keep looking untill Mr. right comes a long. It's funny, when I wasn't looking, I saw them all over at good prices, now that I'm looking, "well", you know the rest of the story.
B'sFX4, I'ld say thats about right for a SC'ed ohv 4.0, around 225, 230 hp, some where in that range. The 4.0 sohc makes 275 hp with the explorer express super charger, but they want 5 grand for that kit. Ruby, a member here put together his own suoer charger kit for his 4.0 sohc, I believe he said he had around 2 grand in it and it runs verywell.
If you were looking into forced induction w/o the losses of a belt driven s/c, look into STS turbo. It's remotely mounted. Really neat idea....
Back on topic, Yeah, I would just wait until the right one comes along, when i does you will know it... I'm certain you'll find the perfect one... Great things come to those who wait....
I fell on hard times, the ranger and jeep had to go. Lord willing I will rebound here shortly, but the damage is done. I try to look on the bright side of things and look toward the future. The winter months will be hard this year, so if you don't hear from me, I will post as soon as I get the electric turned back on ha ha. The wife pays for the stang and said it wasn't going anywhere. No use crying over spilt milk, just pickup and go on. I had to make some quick moves before the repo man showed up.
