Your maintenance schedule

I would like to know what you all have set as your personal maintenance schedule. I am putting together a spreadsheet for my 98 Exp. (it's new to me) and I want to make sure I include every little detail. I would be greatly benefitted by any feedback by you all. Thank you.

Oil Changes every 5k miles using M1 Synth. Tire rotations every 10k. I also grease the pitman arm every oil change. Brakes are checked everytime the truck is up on a lift. I cant remember anything else right now.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I clean the air filter around every 12-14k.

My schedule is pretty simple.... replace things when they break or wear out, change the oil/filter when I remember to (in between adding a quart about every fourth tank of gas). Change Air filter about once a year.

I used to religiously follow the manufacturer's recommended schedule for maintenance, but I find that it's just throwing good money at things that don't really need to be replaced/fixed. Now I just keep an eye on things and as they wear or break, fix them. Not before.

There are certain exceptions to that though. For example two weekends ago my alternator went out. So while I was replacing it I also replaced the serpentine belt since I was in there anyway. It probably didn't need to be replaced, but I have no idea if or when it was changed before and the truck has close to 100k on it now, so it seemed like good insurance to do it now since I had it halfway out anyway.

I've done some research (I like free stuff) and I found this page http://www.genuineservice.com/genuin...ault?page=HomeYou can download manuals, schedules, recalls ... for free.

Good luck. We have a 98 and a 00. We love them both.

I would rather replace my serpentine belt every once in a while than wait for it to fail in the middle of nowhere...and I find that the fuel injector cleaning does improve performance.

I basically follow the manufacturer's recommendations by the book. I started doing this with the past few cars I've owned and I attribute it to being the main reason why I get 200K+ miles out of my cars.

My maintenance schedule is to change the oil every 5-6K miles, use injector cleaner once or twice per year and that's about it.

I do pretty extensive visual inspection every time I change the oil and if something seems like it could use replacing, I'll replace it.

Tranny/rear end/brake fluids, plugs etc. longer lifetime items are changed every couple of years to keep them current.

No dealership services and/or recommendations needed here.
