4x4 part name

I need the infamous cast aluminum 4x4 shift rod mechanism for my 96 F-350. I've seen a lot of discussion on this but have not been able to come up with an actual name or part #. Can't seem to find any in the local scrapyards. Any good sources online for discount parts in case I have to buy new? Thanks

Price too high?

Contact one of FTE's Ford Dealer Parts Dept sponsors...they offer discounts to FTE members. The discount prices are figured from the actual Ford suggested list price, not the usual dealer 30-70% marked up "list" price.

directfordparts or y2kfordparts

When you put the new assembly on, you really only need the aluminum piece, not the bracket that they insist you buy with it. The price is out of control regardless where you get it from...
Make sure the sleeve (plastic/teflon I think) that goes over the bolt that goes through the piece is there and lube the thing with lots of antiseize (over/under the sleeve) so it doesn't bind up again. It's the binding that causes the aluminum casting to snap. Been there, replaced that on my '94 F350... Took about half an hour to replace - need to remove the xfer case shifter to do it. Not hard at all...

this is a common problem with these trucks

here in the rustbelt - Ive found that if you poke a small hole in the boot and squirt penetrating oil & work the lever back and forth - until it loostens up - then squirt in some LPS-3...which goes in like oil but turns to grease -----problem solved....

never force a stuck lever with he-man strength ....breaks every time

The funny thing is, it wasn't frozen or stiff. I think the aluminum just started to corrode and get weak. I'm in the process of finding that part from a sponsor.
