I am a newbie. I have been trying to trouble shoot a problem with my 2003 Excursion. It started out as sluggish rollout, seeming to be in the wrong gear; no codes yet. Then after some time it had rough shifts. Then it started spitting out codes P0750, P0732, P0782 & P1000 with both check engine light and TCIL. All the codes seem to be related. The middle two referring to improper gear selection caused by a solenoid or internal failure. The first code refers to a solenoid failure. I still haven't figured out what P1000 is; some kind of system check. I've been using an ATSG manual for guidance. According to the manual if Slnd "A" malfunctioned in the off position, the truck would start off in 4th then go to 3rd, then 3rd again finally 4th; which seemed to be what it was doing. I even read out the ohms on the selector switch and the SLND Pack. The symptoms would be intermittent. Some times smooth operation in all ranges then suddenly a rough shift and then it would be in the wrong gear for most of the ranges. I thought I would be in the clear if I changed out the Solenoid pack. I was hoping it would be electrical causing the mechanical not to function and not something mechanical messing up the sensors. After swapping the SLND pack and resetting the codes and a short test-drive she was back to her old tricks. I’ve gone as far a I can with my trouble shooting manual and conventional logic. I was hoping to get some guidance that didn't end with a $2500 lawn ornament. Best Regards, Ed
First, ignore the P1000. It just means that not all the tests have run since the last time the batteries were disconnected, or since the codes were cleared.
The solenoid code is the problem. The code DOES NOT mean you have a bad solenoid. It means there is an electrical problem involving the solenoid.
The most likely cause is a problem with the wiring between the PCM and the solenoid. It could be a broken or shorted wire or a corroded connection.
The next most likely is a bad solenoid, but you've eliminated that.
The least likely is a bad PCM. If the solenoid driver fails you will get this code. It's rare, but it does happen.
Once the electrical problem is fixed the other codes will go away.
