Manual transmission flush?
I just took my top cover off my 95 Mazda M5OD last week to do the rubber plug replacement. They weren't leaking but I found out why I was grinding going into 2nd and 3rd. The first to 2nd fork was so worn that there was less than 1/8th " of material left on the fork! The 3rd 4th fork was about 1/2 worn. I replaced them along with the top shifter seal that was broken away from the metal cap (That was where the leak was) The gears and the syncro looked in good shape with no indication of chips or wear. I added the 4 liters of ATF and tried it out. NO more grinding!
Now my question is, I know that metal went somewhere. The drain magnet was covered with sludge and filings. Is there a good flush you can put through a standard to hopefully wash more of the filings out? I was going to just drain the fluid once every couple of weeks for a few times and see what that did. What product do you suggest? What is the best means of application?

Hey thanks for the post. You should get a reply. Be patient, in this forum things take a little longer than other forums, but the information is accurate and people are real friendy.
I just did the plug job on my M50D, (check my gallery), my shift forks were still good, I tried the metal freeze plugs but my holes were different sizes, so I went with OEM plugs from a Ford dealer and put copper RTV sealant on. No leakage. My gasket was still good though, if I didn't have to wait 2 weeks for the gasket I would have done it though. It was a fun job and the peace of mind by having this done and (saving a couple hundred) is worth alot.
I don't know much about flushing a manual transmission. Whatever you use it should be nice to brass, because there are some brass and plastic parts, so no strong cleaners that could harm stuff. I am wondering to a reply as well. I will enjoy the chance to learn more.
