external tranny filter

Any of you guys running an external filter on the automatics? Im looking at a couple of kits, and was curious to any real life experiences.

I've had it on for years...love it. If you get one, get the drain valve so you can easily flush the tranny at the filter.

I have used an external ATF filter in every truck I've used since the late 80's. No problems with trannies (except that damn UltraDrive in the Caravan) since beginning to use them.

My gallery has photos of how I did mine.

Thoughts on by-pass Vs. full flow?

In an ideal world, I'd have both.

But I settled for full-flow with added neodymium magnets stuck to the flange.

I'd go full flow. I also put it in pre-coolers to try to keep the junk out of them in case of catastrophic failure of the T/C. If you put one on check the flow when you've finished your install and make sure it's not to restrictive. I just used a filter head from Summit that takes a regular oil filter.

This is the last extra filter I have to install. I'm getting ready to change the fluid (still in a quandry as what to use that is available locally) I figure I'll put the external filter on at that time.

Based on the comments above, I will now likely buy this kit:

If you guys had said to go with bypass instead, I guess I would have bought the external kit almost at the bottom of this page:

I do find it interesting that the Dieselsite is the ONLY vendor I can find that has assembled a full flow kit specific for the Ford Powerstroke 7.3

Dieselsite is not the only one carrying such a kit. BD Power offers one also for $ 205.-. Their P/N is 1064013. If you google that number you'll find several sites offering it. BTW, I'd be curious why the kit from dieselmann wouldn't work. It looks as if it has all the basic components, maybe not as fancy, or what am I missing here ?

Hey dave , it would seem that some of your worthy competitors are offering your product at that price. Check it out.

Thanks Squaredancer...

As long as it is our BD Product and not something labeled as ours, that would make them a BD vendor not competition, they are allowed to advertise at 10% off.

I am not seeing a link, did you post one?

The kit from the Dieselman is described as a By-pass filter, where as the one from the Dieselsite is Full flow, and a whole lot more money.
